Paraben's E-mail Examiner FAQs

For registration questions, please visit the Registration FAQ page.

Q: Why won't my PST file process with the demo version?
A. PST file conversion capabilities were not included in the demo version of E-mail Examiner.

Q: How do I add my MSN files to process?
A. MSN files can be processed in version 3.7 (or later) of E-mail Examiner, and can be added using the Outlook Express 5/6 option.

Q: How do I do a keyword search from a list?
A. Keywords that are used in a list keyword search must be separated by a line break (one word per line). A match is made when one of the keywords is found in the searched data. When using a list for searching insert the list filename into the "Text" area and select "List of Words" from the search options list.

Q. When performing a search with Email Examiner, can I search the contents of the attachments?
A. No. Email Examiner will only search the email (including headers and body.) It will not search inside of an attachment. Any attachments that you would like to search can be exported and searched manually. If you are working with PST files, you can index the file using Paraben's Text Searcher and search the attachments with that program.

Q: How do I process an encrypted PST file?
A. Most PST files if encrypted with the standard encryption options available in Outlook can be processed without first decrypting them as the functionality for decryption is already built into E-mail Examiner. However, if there is a third party encryption used on the file the file must be first decrypted before processing.

Q: What happens if my mail archive is not processing?
A. Please contact Paraben Support and they will work with you on the individual file/archive problems.

Q: What is the significance of the different colors for e-mails?
A. In the list of e-mails on the E-mail Directory screen, e-mails that were deleted or found in the "Trash" is colored red or orange (some monitors display this as a dark yellow). Red messages means a message body was found while orange means there was no message body found. If an e-mail was marked as unread, it is displayed in bold font.

Q: E-mail Examiner sometimes extracts more messages than it displays. How come?
A. E-mail Examiner checks that no duplicates are saved in the same mailbox. If two messages are identical, only one of them will be saved.

Q: Can E-mail Examiner process MSG files?
A. Yes. To process MSG files, open the Options dialog box, go to the Advanced tab, and enter *.msg in the filed labelled EML compatible ext.

Q: Can E-mail Examiner open Netscape .SNM files?
A. No. Netscape .SNM files are the index files for mailboxes with the same name and don't contain any e-mail messages.
